Entrepreneurs With Blogs

Inside of my consulting firm announcement yesterday, I discussed us launching Entrepreneurs With Blogs.  As a small business owner myself now, I know there is a definite need for a site like Geeks With Blogs in this area.  Running a business is hard.  If you have done it before, I am sure you can agree.  One of the big issues is an understanding of what you have to do to make sure you are paying your taxes correctly.  Another issue is marketing your firm.  All of these problems can be discussed in a forum like a weblog community, so we are making that community available.

Software Consulting in Kansas City

Recently John Alexander and I formed our own software consulting, mentoring, and training firm here in Kansas City named Alexander & Julian Inc. We will still continue to expand Geekswithblogs.net and plan to launch other weblog communities in the near future. One of those communities that is ready to roll is Entrepreneurswithblogs.com. We see this as a community of entrepreneurs who discuss what it is like to run a business and help others know what to expect if they are interested in their own business.

Large Blog Post Etiquette

One thing I have been seeing more of on Geekswithblogs.net is a number of extremely large posts. By extremely large, I am talking 2 pages or more. This does frustrate community readers and your own blog readers because you can't always get the description without reading too much. There is hope however. Inside the system, we have entry types called Articles. This is where I like to send people after large post because they are technically articles at that time. So the preferred method of posting large documents is to create an article and upon saving, you will get a URL for that post at the top. Take that URL and write a post about what you are talking about in the article and let the reader decided if they are interested in it. This will help please your readers and the community readers more and will gain you readership in the long run if done properly.

Great Dinner With Scoble

Last night, John and I had sushi with Scoble and had a great conversation. The dinner took place right in the middle of his brrreeeport experiment, which is a word he made up and was not on Google or MSN to see how quick the engines (Technorati, Google, etc.) would pick up on it. Living in the midwest we don't have the best sushi, so anytime I can get to the west coast, I have to go get some. This was my first experience at "I Love Sushi” in Bellevue and I have to say it was very good.
